Animal Facility Platform

The Animal house facility of the UCM is a Research Assistance Centre with registration number ES28079000000086 in the Directorate General of Agriculture and Rural Development (Ministry of Economy and Technological Innovation) of the Community of Madrid, as a breeding centre, supplier and user of experimental animals, which complies with the legislative requirements relating to animal experimentation (RD53/2013 de 1 de Febrero).

 

All the personnel of the facility have the necessary professional training to work with experimental animals according toOrder ECC/566/2015, which guarantees their skills and attitudes of care.

The evaluation of the procedures and the animal care procedures of the facility are carried out in accordance with the guidelines on animal welfare of the European Directive 2010/63/EEC and RD 53/2013. All animal research projects are supervised and evaluated by a Committee on Research Ethics and Animal Welfare, as well as by an Institutional Committee for the Care and Use of Experimental Animals (http://www.ucm.es/cea).

In order to fulfil its commitment to and understanding of the importance of animal welfare UCM has joined the Agreement on Transparency in Animal Experimentation promoted by the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE), and is a member of the European Association for Animal Research (EARA).
