Analysis of cell populations by flow cytometry

Cytometers analyzers allow the study suspensions of cell populations, aligning them by a laminar flow, so they can be exposed to the laser beam in an individualized way. The analysis can be made attending its morphological characteristics (size and internal complexity) and studying the fluorescence emitted when the cell carries one or more fluorophores. To detect the fluorophores they must fulfill two requirements: they must excite at the laser wavelength and they must emit in a wavelenght detectable by the photomultipliers.
