Monodimensional electrophoresis

Method for separating, analyzing, and purifying macromolecules such as proteins based on charge and size. During electrophoresis the substrate is placed in a well. When an electric current is provided, the molecules travel through the matrix at varying speeds depending on the charge. Separation can be made based on charge and size. During the movement of through the gel, larger molecules are held up on the pores of the gel whereas smaller molecules move fast through the pores and very few will be held up on the gel pores. This will result in the separation of molecules.
