Research Assistance Centres

Spectroscopy and Correlation Unit

The Center for Spectroscopy and Correlation was created in the early 1990s and is part of the Research Assistance Centers (CAI) of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). Its purpose is to carry out tests, give support and scientific-technical advice to the research groups of the UCM, other Universities and Public Research Centers and private companies in the field of the following experimental techniques:

- Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy: are complementary analytical techniques for the identification of functional groups, characterization of structures and compositions of materials and dynamic behavior of molecules in liquids.
- Photon Correlation Spectroscopy: is a technique designed for the study of dynamic processes in dissolution and melts, size determination in colloidal systems, polymers and biopolymers, liposomes and nanoparticles.
- Ellipsometry: it allows to determine thickness of solid and liquid films and in the imaging technique obtain topographic images of solid surfaces.
